Soft blooms, lost in the wind (2024)
Slip cast Porcelain, cobalt blue stain
2024
The way nature blossoms, wilts, and decays. So silent yet so filled with vitality.
It is these quiet yet so powerful moments in our ephemeral world that compel me to capture them using clay’s archival quality.
I am deeply drawn to study of craft – the pursuit and devotion in shaping an object that is guided by the material, maker’s hands, cultural and physical landscape. In this on going series, I employ the motif of blossoming flowers, a magical and fleeting phenomena to explore the versatility of slip casting; a technique traditionally known for its industrial uniformity. I study how to manipulate and reassemble the forms to construct objects that might surprise viewers. Demonstrating that ability of slip casting to be consistent yet diverse, fragile yet resilient.
